CSX 3336

Invoiced to Shelby American on 11/28/66, Shelby Invoice #3586, dated 5/31/67, billed Hi-Performance Motors for the car: "1966 Cobra, Green, CSX3336, $6,145.00," plus an additional charge of $20 "for additional striping requested by Ray Wolfe." A second invoice was sent to Hi-Performance on 6/19/67 for "additional billing to cover change in price of 427 Cobra, Serial number CSX3336, $350." It was said that 3336 was purchased from Hi-Performance by the son of the U.S. Ambassador to Mexico, Claude Le brun. Apparantly the car went to Mexico for several weeks before being brought to Texas, where it sold to Hemphill-McCombs Ford. In the late summer of '67, the car was purchased by an owner who rebuilt it for drag-racing. Fitted with a 427 Tunnel port, a tall hood scoop, custome side pipes which exited the body at an angle less than an inch below the side vents and rear slicks mounted on Sunburst wheels, 3336 was campaigned in the southwest as "The Ravager" in AHRA events, becoming a national record holder with a 10.93 sec.@128.9 mph run. The car was sold to Gary Baggs in the '70's and was repainted Guardsman Blue while retaining the white stripe around its nose. W.R. Chandler acquired 3336 in 1/78 and gave it a complete restoration. The aluminum was stripped to bare metal and repainted Guardsman Blue with an added oil cooler scoop; the 427 tunnel port engine with dual 4's was rebuilt, balanced and blueprinted; and factory-type side pipes and a driver's roll bar, both black, were installed.
