Winter Storage & Preparation

I have noticed on CC, that many members ask how to prepare their car for winter storage. This is the regime I have used over the years on my cars and trucks.
1) Make sure your anti-freeze is good.
2) Pour the recommended amount of fuel stabilizer in tank.
3) Some methyl hydrate in tank will help prevent moisture buildup.
4) Pour half a litre of Dexron II or III into crankcase. This will help clean out any sludge buildup.
5) Start engine and let warm up.
6) Remove air cleaner & pour Dexron down carb. Shut engine off.
7) Drain oil and remove filter.
8) Replace oil and filter.
9) I usually cover my car and put it up on stands for the winter.
10) I usually "click" over the engine occasionally to prevent compression damage to the valve springs. Do not start engine, as this will cause condensation in the crankcase. This condensation will combine with unburnt fuel and create a corrosive element which will eat away at your main bearings.
11) I also put the car on a battery tender.

"There is nothing nice about a Cobra. It's stripped down to the essentials, a big engine, a small car, and four wide tires to keep the whole business on the pavement. It's loud, smells like gasoline, and shakes, shudders, and bucks. It makes your arms tired and your feet hot. You nearly crash about once every 10 minutes. It's so damn wonderful that you can't believe it."

I guess it is that time again for many of us. The above Post is very informative, but omits the Meds required to get the Snake Handler through the winter.
What do you recommend?

Ah, the wonders of California. Even with our cold weather I don't have to go through that routine. I just go out and start mine with the rubber exhaust extensions ran out the door every so often and run them until they are up to temp. Then we normally have a day or so every month where I can take it out for a short drive to get all of the fluids warm and mixed. I took the 69 Cobra for a drive yesterday and met a really nice couple from England.

Yea, like Nomad I can spend most of the bad weather sleeping and taking naps in between my snacks. But at least you don't have the hot weather we have and can drive yours in the Summer.

Nomad,

I live on junk food except when I eat out and then I eat real food. At my age and with my health, I don't have to worry about what I eat as it won't make anything any worse. Just have to limit the Viagra.

For some of us, this is a sad time of year. I just started my winterizing process for my bikes. I just put fuel stab, & methyl hydrate in the gas tanks. I will probably try to take them out for one last ride tomorrow, then complete the winterizing on them. With some luck, I should get my car back this week. The weather has been fantastic this past few weeks. Hopefully it will hold for a few more weeks, so I can get some seat time in it, before freeze up. Then it's time to hunker down for the long cold months!

Weather here has been pretty poor all this week, and the forecast is not much better. I am thinking that I will soon be putting the car away for the winter. I would have liked to have gotten out for one last ride before freeze up, but that looks like it isn't in the cards, right now.

Nomad, at your age, you shouldn't even be driving that beast! That car is way too much for you! That should be in storage all the time! By the way, the colour is your favourite shade of white! LOL!

At my age I don't even buy green fruit, and I only read Short Stories. Thanks for reminding me of the colour of my Cobra, it's dark white, bordering on black.

See, there you go! You're not completely round the bend yet! When that car does get to be too much for you, I know I can make room in my garage to store it for you. It will have a great garage mate, too!

For all you people in cold weather climates, I have the best winter storage solution for you. Ship your car to me and I will keep it garaged for a small fee. For a nominal additional fee, I will ensure that it stays well cleaned, and that all fluids get cycled at least once per month. This way you will not have to go through the rigors of prepping a car, or bike, for winter and will always have a well cared ready to ride car for the spring.

Thanks for the generous gesture Joe! I have shipped my Cobra via Fed Ex with shipping charges due when you receive it. There is dirty laundry in the trunk, if you find time to do it, it would be great.

Cheers
