I posted two new articles today. One "Shelby, The Wonder Years" and two there is a second part to "CSX 2000, The First Cobra." Interesting articles from "back in the day" with some great pics. Enjoy! "There is nothing nice about a Cobra. It's stripped down to the essentials, a big engine, a small car, and four wide tires to keep the whole business on the pavement. It's loud, smells like gasoline, and shakes, shudders, and bucks. It makes your arms tired and your feet hot. You nearly crash about once every 10 minutes. It's so damn wonderful that you can't believe it."

Good additions Bruce. I am still trying to find which book has the picture of the shortest drive line in it. If I ever manage to locate it I will try to get a picture of it to you. Ron

Nice pictures Bruce and it is rare now to find an unrestored original. By the way, a trivia question. Do you know why the shifter was bent forward and what it was originally out of? Ron

The shifter is out of the early Mustang and is bent forward because it is installed backwards to give it more room to shift. Right? ---------- "There is nothing nice about a Cobra. Hey, you have been studying. The first one they installed the correct way and you couldn't shift because your elbow hit the back of the car between the seats. In fact I think they added a little to the bend as I had a 1965 Galaxie with that shifter and when I looked at the ones in the Cobras they had a little more bend to them. Then I believe I saw where they had bent them just a little more. Ron Do I get an "A" in my Cobra trivia? LOL!

I'll be posting some new articles in the next couple of weeks. My girlfriend ordered an old Playboy issue for me, that has the Playmate of the Year, getting a CSX 4000 Cobra. Hopefully the article I have been looking for will be there. She also ordered some other articles for me. What a great woman! Outstanding! ---------- "There is nothing nice about a Cobra. "Now tell us some stories about the time you were working." Is that the theme to the Twilight Zone I hear in the background? I thought we agreed, no four letter words! "Tell me some stories about when you were working". Well Ron, being a Towel Boy in a House Of Ill Repute doesn't really generate alot of stories. It is quite frankly a very boring job, but it does have it's "ups" and "downs". It isn't really a taxing job, you just keep a firm grip on things, and then hope it all comes out in the wash. One of the benefits though is that after they become thread bare, I get to take the towels home! The hours are mostly evenings, but they do provide me with a box lunch. I am learning to play the piano in my spare time as there is an opening coming up for a new piano player in the lounge area. The present Piano Player is being put into a Home, so I guess that he is nearing his last "note". So, that pretty well sums up my job, seeing as you asked.

LOL, I think Nomad tends to exagarate. Working as a towel boy in a house of ill repute has far more side benefits than that. Remember I don't live live that far from Reno and the Old Mustang Ranch. The worst thing Nevada did was to put them out of business. Now the state may have to start a state income tax with revenues dropping from the gambling. Ron

Bruce, Those are both great articles. I wish I still had some of my old car magazines from the early 60s as they had some great stories in them about the Cobras. I remember one magazine that was not at all friendly about the Cobra until after they got to drive one and try it out. Their first complaint was no spare. They just didn't know where it was. Ron

Thanks Ron, I should have some more by the end of the week. I found the King of the Street pics interesting. The car has the Roadster dash, SC motor and other accessories, hood scoop, side pipes and roll bar. The article says, other than the air cleaner, the car is 100% original. I guess it goes to show, what you and Nomad have been saying all along, that the cars were assembled with whatever happened to be available that day. Interesting stuff. ---------- "There is nothing nice about a Cobra. It's stripped down to the essentials, a big engine, a small car, and four wide tires to keep the whole business on the pavement. Bruce, Shelby had a saying he used to like to use back in those days. We sell cars to make money to race, not to be a car manufacturer. And they would use whatever happened to be in reach at the time. I have even seen a couple of the early 289 cars with two makes of gages in them. But considering that his shop at LAX used to look more like a junk yard than a car shop, they made some pretty decent cars. They did clock the gages on their race cars, but that was just for the drivers benefit. That is another reason for the big fight now between Shelby and the SAAC. Right now the SAAC is the only body in the world that can certify if you have a legitimate Shelby Mustang from that era. The Shelby tag was just put on right over the Ford VIN # and there was no logical sequence to them. Say whoever was working on Mustang # 1 that Ford had sent finished after whoever was working on Mustang #15, that Mustang would have a higher Shelby SFM number than the one with the higher Ford VIN number. Ford turned over all the VIN numbers they sent to Shelby to the SAAC and they have all the Shelby SFM numbers and know which ones went to which Mustang. That is one car that it is impossible to build a clone of and get it certified because of the mixture of numbers. There have been a couple of instances of people looking in the registry and finding a gap in the CSX numbers and trying to pass off one they built as an original. But they weren't to good at it as they didn't know all the places that Shelby had the CSX numbers stamped. Ron

As some of you might know I use to own a TR6. I plan to own one again but in better condition then the last one I had. Meanwhile as I keep up on my Triumph research and visit the blogs (like this) often. I discovered some interesting news. I thought it was sort of related to Cobra since the AC history and British thing and all. Most Cobra lovers seem to also appreciate the look of a TR6 anyway. Also car people enjoy all kinds of new auto info, so pardon the break from Cobra news. Well after the announcement of a Chinese auto firm buying and re-building the MG line, another large auto maker wasn't going to sit down looking. It seems that a very popular auto maker who already has success in bringing back a old Brit car is doing it again. YUP!!!! BMW who resurrected the Mini and now is going to try the same with Triumph. The Triumph world is partial on the new look as am I. It kind of looks like a cross between a Honda 2000, a Saturn Sky and a Miata...But if it has BMW guts it should be worth a drive. Have a look folks, tell me what you think? either way it looks like the world loves roadsters and they are on a comeback....(Thank God, that means mini vans will decline in popularity) http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/news/autoexpressnews/210892/triumph.html

Venam, when I was younger, a buddy of mine had a TR6, and at the time I had a 240Z. He used to try and run me all the time. Smoked him every time! I loved the TR6, though. I had quite a few friends with Triumphs. When I was still in high school, I had a friend that had a TR3, another friend had a MGA, one with a MG Miget, one with a 340S Cuda, one with a Cutlass Ralley 350, one with a GTO Judge, one with a SS 396 Chevelle and an MGA stuffed with a 327, one with a 440 GTX and an LT1 Corvette, and one with a 440 Six Pack Super Bee. I have added some new articles and updated some material today. With the help of Ned Scudder, I have added a page for the COB & COX Cobras. I for one, was not sure just where these Cobras fit in. Further more, Bill Jones, owner of CSX 3102 has graciously supplied me with an update on CSX 3102 and CSX 3005. My thanks to Bill for this interesting story! Good stuff!
