CSX 4995

This is my Cobra, CSX 4995.  As many of you know, it has been a long and stressful wait for this car. You can read the complete saga, on the "My CSX" page.  From the beginning, almost 3 years ago, I wanted a "real" Shelby Cobra as close to original specs as I possibly could get. I think one of the reasons I started this website was to aid with my research into these cars. With the help of many friends, I was able to spec out this car very accurately to 1966 specifications. I had a 427 sideoiler motor built for me, by Keith Craft in Arkansas. He built a magnificient motor for me, and was a real pleasure to work with. Appearance wise, the motor is extremely close to what an original "lightweight" 427 would have looked. There is a little more "splash" to the motor, but it does look very much like the originals looked. For the transmission, there could be no other choice but the 4 spd toploader. Transmission is a new David Kee 4 spd., toploader.  The final drive ratio is also one that would have been offered in the "SC" model. It is a 3.54 rear end. The standard rear end ratio in 1966 for the "SC" was the 3.77, but other ratios were offered. I think with the 3.54 rear end, it will give me the best of both worlds. Blinding acceleration with an acceptable rpm on the highway.

This is the 427 Sideoiler, I had Keith Craft of Arkansas, build for me. At first I had intended to go all aluminum, but after my visit with Keith Craft, I decided to go with original 1966 specs. The block is a Pond cast iron block, code dated for 1966. It has been bored and stroked to a displacement of 482 cu. in. The heads are Edlebrock aluminum, with the name machined off. The intake manifold is a Blue Thunder, medium rise. It looks very similiar to the original Sidewinder intake. The valve covers are original chrome Pentroof style. It has an original style Turkey pan and the air cleaner is original style S & H. Keith Craft dyno-tuned the motor for me, with the result being 560 hp/594 ft. lbs. of torque.  Results of the chassis dyno are RWHP is 427 and torque is 455.  The camshaft is a hydralic roller and the compression ratio is 10.5 to 1, so as to run on todays gas.

Here is a video I shot, hearing the motor in the car, running for the first time. "http://www.youtube.com/v/7m5ivTy-NfY&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param

Here is a short video, I took of the car starting up and idling at home.

The interior and dash is typical of the SC model. No glove box, no door map pockets. I was kinda unsure of how I should do this, but in the end I opted to keep as original looking as possible. After all, I really won't be taking too much with me on rides, and it can always go in the trunk. The shifter is original 4spd. toploader style.
