1965 Ford 427 A/C Cobra Roadster Chassis No. CSX 3111. CSX 3111 was originally painted blue with a black leather interior. It was Invoiced to Shelby American on June 21, 1965, and shipped to Los Angeles, California on Shelby invoice No. A 1450. The car was paid for by S & C Motors of San Francisco, CA. The invoice read, "CSX3111, 1966 427 Cobra, Blue/black, $6,145.00, plus pre-delivery service, $35, total: $6,180.00." The car was picked up at Shelby American on December 2, 1965 by its original owner, Hillel Narin of San Francisco, CA. Narin had to return the car to S & C on several occasions for minor repairs, including a stripped speedometer gear, broken hose clamps, dirt in the carburetors, a leak in the oil pan gasket, a dead battery cell and binding upper/lower ball joints. The car's ball joints were replaced under an "extended policy adjustment" in August of 1966, when 3111 showed mileage of 2,185. Subsequent owners of the car were reported to be Ed Gunther of San Jose, CA who at one point also owned CSX 3102, and Peter W. Gangi-Monta of Sereno, CA. Greg Sherick (OR) purchased CSX 3111 in 1974, by which time it had acquired a roll bar and oil cooler. According to Royal Krieger, reporting in The Marque, vol. 1, No. 1, Sherick "backed the Cobra into a bridge abutment at 40 mph." Following repairs by San Francisco-based Dick Workman, Milt Fleischer (CA) acquired this car in the early 1980's and had it repainted silver. CSX 3111 was later entered in the auction at Monterey in July, 1986. Not reaching its reserve price of $85,000 it was sold, after the event, for a reported figure of $73,500. It was then sold in 1995 to Chris Cox of Prova, International (Raleigh, NC). As of that date, it was Guardsman Blue with white stripes, and had Sunburst wheels, including a spare mounted with an original Goodyear Blue Dot; a custom roll bar mounted behind the driver's seat, painted blue, with a third support member going through the body to the trunk; a 427 with 2 4's; a comp fuel cap set into a scalloped recess in the right rear fender roughly 10" in length; and a standard, rear-exit exhaust system. Mileage was reported to be 5,527. CSX 3111 has just completed a full documented frame-off restoration at no expense spared!
