CSX 3342
The Cobra pictured here is a 427 street model. Some of the the distinguishing features are:

A) Undercar exhaust

B) Small, non-recessed fuel filler cap

C) Front and rear bumpers

D) No rollbar.

E) No hoodscoop. Optional on street cars.

F) No oil cooler scoop. All cars post 3300 were built without the scoop

This car also features Halibrand style wheels which are incorrect for this car, but still look great and do not detract from the cars appearance at all.

In the picture at the left, some of the common street car features are:

A) Street Cobra instrument layout. This includes the speedometer above the steering wheel as opposed to the center of the dash for competition and S/C models

B) Also notice the glovebox. There was no glovebox on the competition and S/C models (obvious reasons!)

C) Black leather seats. Competition and S/C Cobras had black naugahyde seats. ALL 427 Cobras had black interior!

The picture to the right has some interesting features to show. Among them:

A) The undercar exhaust is clearly visible

B) More details are visible on the beautiful Halibrand style wheels.

C) The rear bumper is bent outward for rear decklid clearance.

D) Notice the 4 tail lamps. These are Lucas units that started appearing on all Cobras after CSX3201 until production ceased with CSX3360. Rumors are that AC switched from the rectangle units to round after they had exhausted the supply of rectangle tail lamps. The other story is the rectangle units were not bright enough. I tend to believe the brightness story, as the rectangle tail lamps have no reflector behind the bulb!

E) This car also has the wide rear flares, or "wide hip" body. Notice that the rear wheelwells are slightly flaired. The narrow rear flared cars or "narrow hip" had no flares, or only a small lip on the rear wheelwells.

In this trunk shot, you see the original Halibrand sunburst wheel with the original Goodyear "Blue Dot" tire in the 8.15 x 15 size mounted. Notice the black fiberglass trunk tray. S/C and Competition cars had full aluminum paneling in the trunk. If this were a S/C or Competition model, there would be two electric fuel pumps mounted in the forward right corner of the trunk. However, this being a street car, it only has the one mechanical fuel pump attached to the engine .

This view shows the beloved and all mighty 427 side oiler. Some cars were fitted with the 428 Police Interceptor engines. The 428 shows up roughly in the 3200 series range. This 427 is outfitted with a single Holley four barrel topped with a Stellings & Hellings air cleaner. Also shown are the standard chrome pentroof valvecovers. This car also is a "smog" car. The only smog equipment is the closed crankcase vent with a PCV valve installed at the back of the intake manifold.
